My Curse
There was a time
I was an honest man.
The days feed themselves to me
like sugared dates
and the years wer sweets
to be savored.
I had all the time
I'd need to make this world my own.
To make myself known to the
powers that be.
I was ambitious, yes,
but had no greater love
than that for my family.
I swore to do the bidding
of the men who controlled my destiny.
I thought I was honorable
neither slighting or taking from
even one.
But in the end it was pity that was
my undoing,
and my charitable act fell
on deaf ears as the world
howled for my blood.
I lost all that was dear,
my name, my heart, my soul.
And now I rot in this shell of my
former self,
a twisted thing that longs for death.
Even that comfort is lost to me.
Corrupted I stand before the walls of sweet mystery
denied entrance to be with the ones I love.
Conor, you refused me.
You would not help me in my hour
of greatest need.
Now it is time for me to embrace this
hell you have abandoned me to.
I will be your worst enemy.
I will wipe your name from the lips
of all those who would speak.
And to you, God,
I say you will suffer for what
you've done,
and I will last with you through eternity.
